Be honest, now

If you have a kid(s), how often would you say they fell and hit their head in their first year of life? And are the IQ points slowly leaking out of my child's head due to all her bumps and lumps? Seriously, this kid hits her head at least once a week, if not more.

(Fell off the bed this afternoon, for the SECOND time in her life. First time was when she was learning to roll over and we hadn't quite caught on. Today she was walking or jumping or something on the bed...I guess? Daddy time is rambunctious in a way Mommy time never is.)

Fell ON her head or fell and hit her head in the process of falling? If it's the later, then almost every damn day.

I am pretty sure it she is okay. B hits his head all the time-I want to believe it is all part of growing up.

Mine's pretty cautious and rarely hits her head. I think it depends on the kid. It's certainly not due to any amount of diligence on my part.

Mine have just started pulling up, and we've already had 2 bloody noses and a scratched chin. I can imagine that it is only going to get worse.

Way too often. Enough that every time I hear a boom when no one's home I give a sigh of relief that it can't be one of my kids...

And yeah, the ones who turned out particularly clever hit their heads just as much as the ones who didn't.

Repeatedly. The worst has been when he's either tripped or just run into corners of walls. It's gotten less frequent as he's gotten older, but still happens occasionally. Yet he's got a ridiculous vocabulary so even if he's knocked Harvard out of the race, I'm pretty sure he's at least Columbia material ;-)

Heh. When my oldest was 5 WEEKS old, he rolled off the bed and landed face down in his fathers shoe.

He's a really goofy kid now, but my MIL swears his father was just like that at this age, so I'm banking it wasn't the falls that did it to him.

Yeah, all the freaking time! He's fallen off the bed a couple of times, tripped over his feet, stood up under the dining table and knocked his head...at least once a week.

I've lost track.

My #2 is barely mobile and she somehow bumps into things all the time.

Both of mine are always bumping their heads. Doesn't help that my 6 year old was born with a satellite where his head should be.

At least once a week once she started toddling. At I can't count how many raised goose-eggs she had on her forehead during prime photographic moments.

Luckily, she still seems quite smart. :)

We've got a 21-month-old who literally bonks his head on an at least twice-weekly basis. It's unbeliveable how no matter how he falls or where he falls he somehow manages to make contact with his head on a hard surface.

OMG, I KNOW!! jasper bonks himself in a minor way almost daily. he actually gave himself a blood nose on one occasion. And the doctor in emergency told me all about this US study where they examined a heap of babies after falls of 4 foot. Apparently none of them had any brain injuries at all, except for four, who turned out to be victims of abuse.

Just to ease your mind.

kids are tough on the gray hair-- any healthy happy kid has a godo amount of bumps and bruises. My doctor actually saw a scratch on Henry's knee and said: "Looks like he is happy and healthy!"
