Quick question

Have any of you taken domperidone, or know someone who has? Or just have thoughts on the subject? I'm considering starting it--in fact, have the meds on hand, ordered all the way from New Zealand--but am interested in hearing about other people's experiences.

(Hey, when I said the breastfeeding got better, I didn't say it was going great.)

Email Cecily at And I Wasted All That Birth Control (a great blog). She took it and ended up with a great supply- is still breastfeeding her 9 month old and is no longer on the medication. She is very nice.

Yup, I was going to say Cecily too! Also, Amy at beaniesmommy.blogspot.com took it for a while -- she's delightful and would be glad to help you out.

I haven't taken it but have heard great things. I have used fenugreek capsules (was taking 6 per day - gotta smell like maple syrup) and my milk supply increased in two days with extra pumping (I work full time and was only pumping every 3 hours or so, had to bump it up to every 2 hours). The key is to get the extra stimulation at least every 2 hours. Have you looked at kellymom.com? GREAT website, most informative breastfeeding website on the internets, written by a lactation consultant with research to back everything up. Wonderful resource!

Great minds think alike--I emailed Cecily already!

Crystal, I'm currently taking 12 capsules of fenugreek a day! It's definitely helped, but not enough, so the lactation MD I saw recommended domperidone.

It helpped me a bunch, and I will probably be taking it again.

I also ate a lot of oatmeal that is suppose to help aswell.

Good luck

I'm actually taking it right now (2 pills 4 times a day). It's helped somewhat, but not as much as it seems to have helped others. I think that's because I actually have a good supply for a singleton, just not enough to feed both twins. I use the New Zealand folks and they've been very reliable.

Afriad I don't have any advice beyone what others have posted; fenugreek was enough to give me just enough milk for my singleton, until her appetite went up at 9 months and she weaned herself onto (many, many) bottles of formula. If we're able to have another, I will definitely try the domperidone.

Hope it works well for you!

I'm taking it and it's great. No side effects that I can discern. (I took Reglan, but stopped after experiencing extreme anxiety.) My milk production is great (4-6oz for a 10-minute pump, depending on the time of day), my confidence is way up, and I'm actually enjoying nursing. My goal was 3 months, but now I can totally see nursing for a year or more.

oh yeah, I was supplementing with formula but no longer need to. My son just had his 4-month checkup and he's 70th percentile in both height and weight. On breastmilk!
