Speaking of not ready...

Just got back from the doctor. I'm fingertip dilated, which explains why I've been losing so much mucus (passed another big glob this morning). Although last week's fFN test was negative, TheGoodDoc thinks it's possible I may go into labor as early as this weekend. She's pretty certain I won't make it to my Feb. 5 scheduled section. She brought in the partner who's on call this weekend to introduce us and go over my case, and told her if I'm dilated to 2 or 3 centimeters to go ahead and do the section. I have instructions to call if the contractions get to 7-8 minutes apart for 2 hours.

HOLY. SHIT.

However, we did also make an appointment for an office visit next Tuesday, in the hopes that if I take it really easy this week, I can make it at least until then. Fingers crossed.

Oh, wow! Best of luck to you in the coming weeks; I have a feeling we may not be getting any new posts from you for a while... while hoping, of course, that you hang in there a bit longer. I, also, had a last-minute panic over feeling comepletely unprepared and poorly educated and frightened of family coming to stay before I got a grip on parenting. Just take a few deep breaths and remember that eventually they will all go away and you and your husband will be alone at home with your wonderful Bat Girl. And my daughter slept on us, in her car seat, curled up in her boppy pillow, pretty much everywhere but her room for weeks and weeks. All that nursery prep can wait, and hey-- it'll give your mother something to do while you hold (and hopelessly spoil) your new baby. I'll be thinking of you!

Have you talked to your doc about getting the steriod shots in case Bat Girl does make her appearance this weekend? These might help give her lungs the little extra boost. My youngest was due Feb 12th and was born Jan 4th 6 years ago and she could have used that extra boost. She turned out just fine you would never know from looking at her that we had a rough start but i think the shots would have helped her if she had them.

Holy shit indeed, Electriclady. How exciting! Of course, I'm hoping the baby stays in for a little while longer...

Thinking of you.

Well, shit. I can't believe it may all be kicking off so soon! I hope Bat Girl hangs on to the uterus long enough to come out strong and healthy. Very best wishes for the next few weeks, and I look forward to your updates!

Eeeeeeeeeeeee!

Just as a data point, and I have no idea how this would be different for a Weird Womb Gal (though with twins my uterus is under unusual stress of its own), but a week ago (34 1/2 weeks) I was a fingertip dilated, and yesterday (35 1/2) I was 1.5 cm. But my OB gave me no indication that this meant labor was imminent. I know from friends that some women hang out in the 1-2 cm range for weeks, so Bat Girl may still have some good cooking time left. (And even if not...you are past 34 weeks now, which is so amazingly terrific!)

GAH!

Oh, how quickly time passes (for me at least). Take it easy this week, girl.

I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully the baby will stay in a little longer, but if not, I'm sure everything will be just fine. Congratulations! Take it easy.

I'm also hoping for the best for you and Bat Girl! First-time moms can be dilated a lot for a very long time, so it may or may not happen soon. But with your contractions the way they are, who knows? I can't wait to hear about your baby girl! Oh, and if you can have her on Sunday, that's my birthday--a great day to have my baby, in my not-so-humble opinion ;-)
